The MAJEXTAND Founder’s Design Philosophy: The Simpler It Looks, the Harder It Is to Perfect
How far can you take something as seemingly simple as a stand?
Whether it is designed for a laptop, tablet, or smartphone, the basic purpose seems straightforward: support a device and position it at a comfortable angle.

But for MAJEXTAND founder and product designer Jerry Kuo, a tool that is picked up, opened, adjusted, folded, and carried every day deserves careful thought in every detail.
After years of working as a designer, Jerry experienced cervical spine problems twice. Those experiences made him particularly conscious of the relationship between working posture, the tools we use, and the spaces in which we use them.
When he began designing the original MAJEXTAND laptop stand, he wanted to address several frustrations he saw in conventional stands: they were often bulky, inconvenient to carry, or unnecessarily complicated.
As MAJEXTAND expanded from laptops to tablets and smartphones, however, we realized that the fundamental challenge remained remarkably similar:
How do you create an everyday tool that is thin and lightweight, yet stable, intuitive, and visually refined?
That question became the starting point of MAJEXTAND’s design philosophy.
Ever since, we have continued exploring how a stand can become thinner, lighter, and easier to carry without compromising stability or the overall user experience.

The Simpler the Form, the Greater the Design Challenge
From the MAJEXTAND laptop stand to the Majextand M and Majextand S / SB, you will rarely find complicated forms or unnecessary decoration.
But achieving that simplicity is anything but simple.
When a stand becomes thinner, its structural strength has to be reconsidered. When weight is reduced, material selection and component placement become even more critical. And when the overall footprint becomes smaller, the product must still provide enough adjustability and stability to be genuinely useful.

Different devices also create very different engineering challenges.
A laptop stand must support a larger and heavier device with confidence. A tablet stand needs greater flexibility across different viewing and interaction angles. A smartphone stand has to accommodate height adjustment, rotation, magnetic attachment, and portability—all within an extremely compact form.
The products may be different, and so are the structural problems behind them. But the principle remains the same.
True simplicity is what remains after countless decisions have already been made.
We want the user to see simplicity and feel intuitiveness.
The complexity of materials, structures, tolerances, and manufacturing should already have been solved before the product ever reaches their hands.
Every Millimeter Has a Reason to Be There
At MAJEXTAND, thinness has never been just another specification.
As a product becomes thinner, the structural space available inside it becomes smaller as well. Component dimensions, connection methods, load paths, and material choices all have to be reconsidered together.

This is why, although our products use different structures, they share a recognizable design philosophy.
The MAJEXTAND laptop stand folds flat against the underside of the laptop, allowing the stand to become part of the device itself.
The Majextand M compresses its supporting structure into a slim body designed for tablets, smartphones, and other mobile devices.
The Majextand S / SB takes this concept further by combining magnetic attachment, elevation, and 360-degree rotation while preserving freedom of movement within a compact footprint.
Every reduction in thickness or weight makes the structural design more difficult.
But for people who carry their devices every day, even a small reduction in bulk or weight can make a meaningful difference over time.
That is why we care about every millimeter—and every gram.
Because true portability is not simply about making something small.
It is about making something you are willing to carry every day.
Good Design Changes With the Way You Use It
Laptops, tablets, and smartphones are used differently. That is why we have never tried to solve every problem with the same structure.
For laptop work, stability and screen positioning matter.
A tablet may be used for reading, watching videos, drawing, video calls, or as a second screen for work.
Smartphone use is even more fluid. From messaging and video calls to content creation and photography, the ideal viewing angle can change every time you pick up the device.

That is why the MAJEXTAND laptop stand, Majextand M, and Majextand S / SB each use different adjustment mechanisms.
What matters to us is not how many features we can add, but whether those features genuinely respond to the way people use their devices.
When you need another angle, can you get there quickly?
When it is time to move, can you fold the stand away without thinking about it?
And once it is inside your bag, does it feel like something extra you have to carry?
Design ultimately has to answer these small, everyday questions.
The Details You Touch Every Day Matter Most
With an everyday tool, much of the experience is hidden in details you may barely notice at first.
Across the MAJEXTAND laptop stand and Majextand series, we use precision metal manufacturing in Taiwan to create products that remain slim while maintaining structural stability and a clean, refined feel.

The edges you feel when picking up the product, the points where your fingers apply pressure, the feedback when opening or folding it, and the surfaces that come into contact with your device all contribute to the experience over time.
Even the surface finish matters.
The Majextand SB, for example, uses a brushed metal finish designed to better resist visible wear and fingerprints during everyday use while preserving the natural character of stainless steel.
These details may not immediately stand out. But you begin to notice them after using the product again and again.
Perfection Comes From Making Trade-Offs
Adding features to a product is relatively easy.
Deciding which features deserve to remain is much harder.
More thickness can provide additional structural space. More components can create more adjustment options. A larger footprint can make stability easier to achieve.
But at MAJEXTAND, every additional element has to justify the space and complexity it adds to the user’s life.
That is why, from our laptop stand to the Majextand series, much of our design process has actually been about subtraction.
Structures that can be simplified are reconsidered. Features that genuinely matter receive more time and attention.
Through repeated prototypes, testing, and refinement, we look for the right balance between portability, stability, usability, and durability.
For us, pushing design to its limits does not mean adding more.
It means making sure that everything left has a reason to be there.
MAJEXTAND Designed to Move With Everyday Life
We want MAJEXTAND products to move with the people who use them.
The laptop stand stays with your laptop. The Majextand M travels with your tablet and mobile devices. The Majextand S / SB becomes part of the way you use your phone every day.

Whether you are working at a desk, opening your laptop in a café, watching something while traveling, or jumping onto an unexpected video call, every device is used differently.
The tools around those devices should remain as simple as possible.
Open them when you need them. Adjust them to where they feel right. Fold them away when you are finished.
No unnecessary bulk. No unnecessary disruption to the way you already work.
When a tool can become part of everyday life without asking you to change your habits around it, we believe it has done its job.
We Keep the Complexity. You Keep the Simplicity.
From the original MAJEXTAND laptop stand to the Majextand M and Majextand S / SB, the devices we design for have changed. The structures have changed. And the ways people use technology continue to evolve.
One principle, however, has remained constant:
We keep the complexity. You keep the simplicity.
You should not need to know how many prototypes went into a stand.
You should not need to understand how every millimeter of its structure was calculated.
What matters is that it feels natural when you pick it up, intuitive when you open it, stable when you use it, and almost unnoticeable when you fold it away and carry it with you.
From laptops and tablets to smartphones, we have never wanted to simply make another object that holds a device.
We want the tools we use every day to feel simpler, more adaptable, and easier to take wherever life happens.
That idea began with the very first MAJEXTAND.
It continues to guide what we design today—and what comes next.
